NSG 3036 Specifying the problem Purpose and Hypothesis
Summarized the research articles.
Identified and described the problem for the article.
Identified the purpose statement for the article.
Identified the hypothesis and research question for each article.
Discussed each article’s significance to nursing.
Review the PICO(T) resources listed in the topic readings.
Formulate a PICOT statement using the PICOT format used in the assigned readings. The PICOT statement will provide a framework for your Capstone Project. NSG 3036 Specifying the problem Purpose and Hypothesis
In a paper of 500-750 words, clearly identify the clinical problem (from your Topic 1 approved Change Proposal) and how it can result in a positive patient outcome.
Make sure to address the following on the PICOT statement:
Evidence-Based Solution
Nursing Intervention
Patient Care
Health Care Agency
Nursing Practice
Recall that a PICOT starts with a designated patient population in a particular clinical area and identifies clinical problems or issues that arise from clinical care. The intervention should be an independent, specified nursing change intervention. The intervention cannot require a provider prescription or equipment change. Include a comparison to a patient population not currently receiving the intervention, and specify the timeframe needed to implement the change process. Description
Throughout this course, many opportunities are available to post an initial response to a Discussion topic as well as to respond to your classmate’s responses. After you have completed the reading, and without reviewing your classmate’s responses, post your initial response to the following Discussion. Your post should be at least 300–350 words in length and should extend the discussion of the group supported by your course materials and/or other appropriate resources. After you have submitted your initial post, review some of your classmate’s posts and post at least two substantial responses to peers. Refer to the Discussion Board Rubric in Course Resources for specific grading requirements. NSG 3036 Specifying the problem Purpose and Hypothesis
As one step in the scientific method, after choosing a topic and forming a research question and hypothesis, researchers need to decide what type of research design they want to use. As you have learned during class, there are many different methods that a researcher could use. It can be helpful to think through the different options prior to determining what method to use. It is important to think of what is most needed from your study results when choosing what method to use. For example, is internal validity or external validity more important?
As all methodologies have limitations, what are limitations that you can “live with” in regards to studying your research question? A researcher who wants to prioritize results that generalize to real world settings would likely want to prioritize strong external validity and be able to “live with” limitations to internal validity. A researcher who wants to be able to make strong causal inferences from the results would likely want to prioritize strong internal validity and be able to “live with” limitations to external validity. Think of a topic of interest to you that involves comparing two groups of people. Then choose one of the following to answer:
A: Discuss how a quasi-experimental design could be used to study your topic.
- What is your research question, hypothesis, and target population?
- Why would a quasi-experimental design be better to use than other study methods for this topic?
- What are strengths and limitations of your study that result from using a quasi-experimental design?
B: Discuss how a single factor experimental design could be used to study your topic.
- What is your research question, hypothesis, and target population?
- Why would a single factor experimental design be better to use than other study methods for this topic?
- What are strengths and limitations of your study that result from using a single factor experimental design? Passer, M. W. (2014). Research methods: Concepts and connections. NSG 3036 Specifying the problem Purpose and Hypothesis
