Why you chose this article and/or how it relates to the clinical issue of interest (include a brief explanation of the ethics of research related to your clinical issue of interest)

My clinical issue of interest is how to maximize access to care for pregnant women with opioid use disorder (OUD). This article outlines the barriers to access care for this population. Therefore, it helps in understanding the issues that pregnant women face in accessing care for OUD. The main aspect of ethics in this research is the issue of withholding or denying care to pregnant women. The article presents discussions on the ethics of the justification behind withholding care based on the coverage of pregnant women,

This article outlines the trends of medically-assisted treatment among pregnant women with OUD. The study is useful because it outlines how pregnant women with OUD use medications for recovery. Findings will be used to adjust the use of medications to standard care needs. The ethical issue related to the clinical aspect in this case is whether withholding pain medication from patients with OUD is ethical. In this case, researchers do not withhold medication.

This article reviews how the pregnancy period affects women’s OUD. The article is useful to the clinical problem because it provides a basis for understanding the intersection between pregnancy and drug use. The most probable ethics issue in this article is the informed consent of research participants. The researchers provided information about the study and certification for confidentiality from National Institute on Drug Abuse.

This study presents a general health outcomes for pregnant mothers with OUD and their usage of healthcare. The article contributes to the clinical problem by bringing out the prevalence of drug use and abuse and rates of seeking care. It will be useful in shedding light on how pregnant mothers with OUD access care. The main ethical issue from this study would be the informed consent to participate in the study. However, informed consent was obtained in this article and hence the stud was ethically conducted.

Brief description of the aims of the research of each peer-reviewed article The aims of this research were to establish the barriers present in the Appalachian region to accessing care for pregnant women. The researchers identify that the geographical location has a serious OUD epidemic hence wanted to determine whether pregnant women accessed care adequately. The aim of this research was to determine the usage of MAT among pregnant women with OUD. The study was essentially meant to determine whether the use of MAT was effective for this research population. The aim of this study was to explore the experiences of postpartum women after undergoing both maternity care and substance use treatment after child birth. This study reveals the interaction between the two conditions and hence seeks to determine whether drug use affects postpartum and if there are any changes to women postpartum if OUD is a factor. The aims of the study were to determine the current utilization of healthcare services by the target population. It also aimed to improve access to care for the target population hence improving the health of the population. This study sought to determine the outcomes of engaging with the care system for pregnant mothers with OUD.
Brief description of the research methodology used Be sure to identify if the methodology used was qualitative, quantitative, or a mixed-methods approach. Be specific.

The research methodology used was a mixed methods approach. The researchers conducted phone interviews with the target population. They also collected data on wait times and payment amounts. Data analysis was statistical which made the research a mixed methods approach.

The study was a retrospective cohort study of the attendance to pregnant women with OUD. The study is a quantitative approach because it uses data from health records to analyze trends and outcomes of the interventions.

The researchers conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews with the research participants. The study was qualitative because it included a content analysis approach. The research methodology sought to determine experiences of research participants and hence was a qualitative approach.

This study was quantitative analysis of the available cohort data. Quantitative methodology was applied whereby the researchers sought to determine the rates of OUD use and healthcare services. These rates are computed and reported statistically hence making the study a quantitative approach.

A brief description of the strengths of each of the research methodologies used, including reliability and validity of how the methodology was applied in each of the peer-reviewed articles you selected.

This article presents the main strength of including findings from four different states in the Appalachian region. Reliability is found in the study’s dependence on the general findings of the population in the area. The methods used are valid because they provide feedback on the target population’s experience access to care.

A major strength of this study is that it uses state-wide data hence boosting generalizability. The study also depended on cohort approach whereby the methods used to measure data are historical approaches. Therefore, the data produced is highly reliable and valid.

Semi-structured interviews provide in-depth understanding of the phenomenon and experiences of population with the healthcare system. The sample of the study is wide enough to ensure reliability in this study. The instruments used are also valid.

This study has several strengths. In the use of administrative data, the study produced findings that are reliable due to the supply of data and consistency of records. The data sources are thus reliable hence producing credible outcomes. The methods used to measure outcomes are also standard measurement approaches which makes the study’s validity evident.

General Notes/Comments This article will be useful in determining how the target population accessed care and eliminating barriers.

The study shows that MAT use in pregnant women is on the increase hence it is a source of worry on the impact of MAT on pregnant women’s health. The study is useful in explicating how OUD affects postpartum and vice versa. This study outlines the utilization of healthcare for target population and necessitates interventions to produce relevant changes in OUD management.
