Define CAM.

Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) refers to practices in healthcare that have not been habitually part of conventional medicine. They include the various practices in healthcare and the products which are used to treat any form of human disease and to promote health condition of the people (Johnson & Elkins, 2019). Such practices include; acupuncture and massage and they are not part of standard medical care.

Describe the patient who uses CAM the most

According to various research conducted by the health researcher, the patients who use CAM the most are the middle-aged people and mostly the females. They are also said to have high level of education. A good example is the research that was conducted in US in 2008 where the results showed that 40% females and 30% males had used CAM in a year time (Johnson & Elkins, 2019). Most of these users were found to have more than one heath issue and their general health was rated as poor.

List some common misconceptions about CAM.

CAM has some common misconceptions. First, in most cases, it is superior to conventional medicine. Secondly, it’s not companionable with conventional medicine, Thirdly, it’s not everyone who can benefit from the medicine. Lastly, it is not of as much effect as compare to modern medicine and it is seen as witchcraft.
