PICOT Question Development

As a Group (the same group you had for the Literature Review), you have the option of utilizing some of the information found in your Literature Review to formulate a searchable, answerable question about a clinical issue and then develop a PICOT question. (It cannot be the same question you used for your literature review but can be a new question based on the results or conclusion of your literature review). Or you can explore a new topic for the formation of your PICOT question, this is up to your Group.

A critical appraisal of at least 4 research studies (not used as part of your literature review) to evaluate the levels of evidence in relation to the question will be done to evaluate validity, reliability, and applicability (how will the results help in caring for the patient?).

Read in Lobiondo-Wood page 13-14 about levels of evidence. Then look up the words validity, reliability and applicability in the textbook so you understand their implication.

 

So the question is basically asking – Does the level of evidence present in the articles support the validity, reliability and applicability of your PICOT question to practice?
