Re: Topic 1 DQ 1
The community health nurse focuses on health promotion of families within the school and occupational environments (GCU, 2018). Community stakeholders are groups of people (government officials, business owners, religious organizations, etc.) who are often involved in the decision making of community changes because they are directly affected by the changes implemented. It is important for the community health nurse to seek out and inform community stakeholders of any recommended changes that need to be made and help them understand why the change needs to occur. Obtaining their understanding and cooperation will go a long way towards implementing the change. For example; a community health nurse identifies a poorly maintained school playground that has become a safety hazard. The nurse will need to involve the community stakeholders by informing them of the issue and the resulting consequences to the neighborhood children’s health and if the issue is not addressed. The community stakeholders can respond by insisting the school address the issue or even help fundraise the money needed to pay for replacement equipment and routine maintenance of the playground themselves. Alone, the community health nurse is one voice and unable to make significant change. But with the involvement of community stakeholders, their financial resources, and weight within the neighborhood, many great things can be accomplished.

Re: Topic 1 DQ 1-Community Health Nursing
The role of the community health nurse comprises of several responsibilities geared towards ensuring the quality of the health standards and distribution of health care within a specified population (Northeastern State University, 2017). The community nurse educates the population on health risks such as communicable diseases, performs assessments and wellness checks, and promotes interventions on illness and disease management. For example, the community health nurse would provide informational leaflets on the importance of safe sex and HIV testing to ensure knowledge of status as well as the distribution of condoms. Examine the role of the community/public health nurse
The cooperative efforts of the community nurse and the stakeholders allow for the inclusion of those directly involved with endorsing and implementing health policies. For example, an elected official would be responsible for funding a public health initiative to ban smoking within restaurants. The community nurse would receive the endorsement of her education on the importance of smoking cessation and improved air quality from said elected officials.
The community nurse considers community resources within assessments to ensure the health care messages are in conjunction culturally with the population. Communities rely on organizations within the population for support and guidance. The pastor of the church within a community is a source of communication to the entire population and, in effect, would serve as instrumental in hosting a church gathering to promote diabetes management education. Assessment of community resources will also allow for identification of needs or hinderances to health promotion. For instance, upon assessing the school board, the community nurse uncovers a plan to institute vending machines packed with soda and candy. In this instance, the nurse would be able to addresss a need for nutritional education and can begin her efforts with encouraging the school board to lean towards healthier vending machine items.

Re: Topic 1 DQ 1
Community health nurses, sometimes called public health nurses, are registered nurses (RNs) who are trained to work in public health settings such as county or state health departments, schools, jails , and businesses. According to (DUQUESNE UNIVERSITY, 2018). Community nursing participates evidence- based research with community health needs to provide care based on science and evidence. They must determine the cultural and socioeconomic needs of the community and alter care as needed. By helping whole communities, community nurses act as educators, disease and injury prevention specialists, research scientists, community advocates, emergency preparedness experts , public health liaison, and health care professionals (DUQUESNE UNIVERSITY, 2018).
It is important to appraise community resources (nonprofit, spiritual/religious, etc.) as part of a community assessment because Community health needs assessments (CHNAs) have the potential to be powerful drivers to enhance the health of communities. Thousands of hospitals across the United States complete a CHNA process every three years. This process includes reviewing quantitative data on community health status, soliciting input from community stakeholders, selecting priority community health needs and devising strategies to address the identified priority needs (CDC, 2019). These resources are important in population health promotion because it will increase the probability of reducing health disparities and improving population health status (Pennel, McLeroy, Burdine, & Matarrita-Cascante, 2015).

Re: Topic 1 DQ 1
According to the American Public Health Association, using knowledge from nursing, social, and public health sciences is what defines public health nursing (APHA.org). Public health nurses, or PHNs, look at health as a whole, instead of how it affects an individual. The mission, vision, and commitment of a PHN is the health promotion and care for a community and population at large (GCU, 2018). PHNs partner with stakeholders which are people involved and directly affected by outcomes of population healthcare like local government officials and faith-based communities (GCU, 2018). While focusing on the health needs of an entire population, the PHN puts an emphasis on primary prevention, policy development, and risk reduction, and disease prevention efforts (APHA.org). Today, we have school nursing, occupational health nursing, and the American Red Cross, to name a few specialties that emerged from public health nursing (GCU, 2018). Understanding public health nursing provides us with a new gratitude for all their contributions to the health care system that we have in place today.
Public health nurses focus on improving population health where people live, work, learn, and play (APHA.org). This requires assessing the community to include the population, location, and social system (GCU, 2018). PHN concentrates on the defined population’s needs for prevention of illness and health improvement (GCU, 2018). Therefore, assessing the resources available to the community plays an important role in understanding health disparities in a certain population. Resources can include support groups and counseling services, spiritual groups, and homeless shelters. The nurse can then assess the impact that these resources have on the community and how health inequities and disparities are reduced (GCU, 2018). When problem areas are identified, nurses can partner with community leaders that will help bring the problem to the attention of the public; health improvement efforts, may then be implemented (GCU, 2018). In an area of nursing like public health, it is crucial to collaborate with stakeholders to implement changes in the health care system.

Role of Nurses in Health Promotion
Nurses are so vital in health promotion implementation. Nurses, in collaboration with community leaders, have the role of educating people about diseases and how to prevent them. For instance, nurses can use church premises to hold meetings aimed to promote hand hygiene, proper sexual behavior in a move to prevent infectious diseases from an affected specific population. Also, they can train people on how to prevent certain conditions from affecting them (Hoekstra et al., 2016). Apart from education, nurses can play the role of patient advocates. Nurses can work together with other community leaderships, such as human rights organizations to compel health institutions to organize health promotion activities. Lastly, another role of nurses is to find partners who can chip in and support the health promotion program either by providing funds or human personnel. In summary, nurses can be educators, advocates, and coordinators during health promotion.
Appraisal activity is a significant project not only in the business sector but also in community recourses. First, community resources should be appraised so that the leaders should understand the clear objectives of the resources. Kelly et al. (2017) mention that when leaders understand the goals and objectives of the resources they have, they put them to good use to ensure that the resources have achieved their milestones. Second, community resources should be appraised to determine their value and significance to the community. Lastly, community resources should be appraised so that they can be developed further. One of the importance of community resources is that they can be used to hold promotional activities. For instance, nurses can use church premises and community halls to hold teaching activity. Also, community speakers and transportation can be used to conduct community outreach system.

Re: Topic 1 DQ 1
According to Green, (2018), “community nurse promotion health of individuals and families, providing care in settings such as occupational or educational systems”. Nurses today work outside of hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and other facilities. Nurses care and educate people in their homes, schools, churches, parks, and impact communities. Nurses collaborating with community stakeholders creates a trusting relationship with the people in the communities. Nurses are able meet people from different age groups. For example, nurses can teach safe sex practice to adolescent and young adult at different school and community parks. Nurses can also work with city, state, and government officials to get the communities the financial support needed to promote health. Nurses can better help communities if they understand the people within the communities. Asses the communities’ culture can help nurses make realistic plans with good outcomes. Nurses can help people in communities plan nutritious healthy meals with food they will eat if the nurse understand the culture. Knowing how to substitute an unhealthy food with a healthy food is important. A community that eat rice at every gather can substitute white rice with brown rice. Sodas can be replaced by water and homemade juice. Community assessment allow nurses to customize plans that best the community.
