• Legal considerations is defined as the list of standards that are established to assist
individuals value in a legally binding contract. While, ethical considerations is an
accumulation of values and principles that address questions of what is good or bad in
human principles. The legal and ethical issues are applied to provide a duty of care to
ensure the safety of the transported client from prevention of injuries. Legal and ethical
considerations also applies to all hospital protocols and procedures, infection control
practices and organizational policies.
Q2 When is there a need to report or refer a client to the appropriate health professional?
• There is a need to report or refer a client to a medical or allied health professional if a
client has been screened or categorized as high risk or has a condition that is outside the
healthcare professional’s scope of practice.
Q3 How do you determine the appropriate equipment to be used in the transportation?
• Health care professionals should identify the patient’s appropriate equipment by
completing a thorough assessment finding to determine the patient’s needs. The patient’s
special needs will also be based on patient’s physical abilities and health status. The main
goal is to reduce the possibility of accidents and complications to the patient.
Q4 Before transporting the client, what five (5) measures should you undertake?
• The five measures that should be taken before transporting the client are the following:
o A ticket to ride is the first to secure as it includes the patient’s information such as
the name, the procedure to be performed, allergies and other pertinent data about
patient’s health status.
o Second, before transport, the patient should be correctly identified using two
classifiers such as the name and birth date and compare it to the data on the chart.
o The correct equipment should be secured next to ensure proper monitoring of
patient during transport.
o The fourth one is to obtain a transfer board or roller for comatose or bed-ridden
patients to secure safety during transport.
o Last is to incorporate safety or gait belts for ambulatory patients to prevent fall
and insure safety.

• The copies of an organization policies and procedures should be easily accessible by all
healthcare workers. Copies are found in folders in a central location or in staff manuals.
Organisation policies and procedures’ soft copy are also available on the organisation’s
intranet system.
