As a health care administrator, you will be called upon to clearly and succinctly introduce yourself to many different people. It is helpful to prepare an “elevator speech” to express essential information about yourself and your goals. The term elevator speech is used in business to denote a short, simple message you can convey while positioned next to someone you would like to meet in an elevator. In reality, you may use an elevator speech when you meet people in a variety of settings and situations.
Recall the goals you identified in your Professional Development Plan for the Week 5 Assignment.
Review the Walden University “Vision and Mission Statements” web page including the vision and mission statements for the College of Health Sciences (located in this week’s Learning Resources).
Also review the “Learning Outcomes – Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA)” web page located in this week’s Learning Resources. Select one or two that are particularly significant for your career aspirations.
Prepare an approximately 30-second elevator speech in which you promote your strengths as a health care administrator and explain how your goals exemplify the distinguishing characteristics of Walden University and the MHA program.
Communicate your elevator speech to friends or family members. The tone of your voice and your body language are just as important as the words you say, so ask for feedback and practice until you are able to clearly and confidently deliver your elevator speech.
If you have not done so already, review the information on recording, uploading, and viewing Kaltura media provided in the Kaltura Media Uploader area on the course navigation menu.
Using Kaltura or a comparable media option of your choice, record your elevator speech. Review your recording to ensure the presentation quality is satisfactory. Your recording should include both a video and an audio presentation or transcript. As a best practice, also complete a transcript that coveys your speech in written form/text.
BY DAY 3
Upload your recorded elevator speech. Also upload the transcript of your elevator speech that was completed.
View your colleagues’ recordings.
BY DAY 5
Respond to at least two of your colleagues’ postings by highlighting the strengths of each speech, noting something that inspires you, providing constructive feedback, and/or asking follow-up questions.
Continue this Discussion until Day 7 by sharing questions and insights to deepen the discussion of how the Walden University mission and vision and the College of Health Sciences mission and vision align with academic and professional goals.
