Hello All,

The two contexts in which human service professionals promote change is by participating in community organizing and empowerment. I would promote positive change by participating in community organizing and help underserved group of people in my own community. African-Americans would be my targeted group. I live in Fresno Ca where blacks make up less than 10% of the population (worldpopulationreview2021). There are not a lot of African Americans that are thriving in ownership. Specifically homeownership. Programs need to be developed to that target this group. Collectively, only 27% of blacks in Fresno County are homeowners as compared the 66% of white residents (www.fresnobee.com). There needs to be a system that can identify why there is such a gap between the groups. I would also work with the community to change policies that would empower blacks to have more access to programs that can empower them. Redlining has hurt the community and although it has been outlawed the effects are still thriving. I would also want to build black owned banking organizations so that those banks can empower people into ownership.

All the things mentioned above will take hard work and dedication. There will be times where the professional would experience times where they would want to give up. Burning out is something that the professional would face. To prevent or reduce burn out I would become knowledgeable of the characteristics of burnout. I would not have unrealistic expectations of outcome and understand that my clients and coworkers are in control of themselves. I would also exercise regularly and vocalize my needs to my superiors. Burnout is very real and will cause a tremendous amount of stress both physically and emotionally. It is important to vocalize your needs to your superiors at your workplace.

Hello Everyone!

Two ways to promote positive change in my community are community mapping and building an information network. Community mapping is a strategy that human service professionals and the agencies they represent use to learn about other professionals and agencies. This helps the professionals understand their clients and their economic, racial, and ethic reality. Building an information network is basically gaining knowledge about the people in the community. To help my community progress and move forward in a positive manner, I need to first learn about the people in the community and the problems they are facing. Once I gather up everything, then I can start strategizing a solution to better benefit them.

Burnout is negative changes in attitude and behavior that are caused by job strain. This can affect the professional negatively. This can make them unmotivated to work. It can also make the professional miss days of work, be late, and even have a negative attitude at work. Some ways to help reduce the chance of burnouts are meditation, connecting with family, and setting limits for yourself. Ashworth College Change Promotion in Human Service Paper
