Week 2-Health & Disease

Chapter 2 covers the basics that we need to know in order to clearly communicate about the human body in health and disease. I find that one of the hardest parts for people to memorize is the body planes and directional terms. However, it is one of the most important concepts in caring for a person. If you can’t accurately describe where things are located, it is very difficult to give good care.

Choose a body part. It can be internal or external. Then create a riddle using the proper directional terminology to describe the location. Do not use the name of the body part in your description. That way your peers can see if they can guess which part you were trying to describe.

When you reply to others, be polite and guess which part they were describing. Additionally, give feedback if you feel that they could have described it in another way.

Discuss the proper terms that are used to discuss pathology, modes of transmission, and types of disease. You will find that some of these medical terms are used in common language as well. However, not all of them are. For those words that are not commonly used, how can you describe them in everyday terms?
