INSTRUCTIONS: Each group of students will sign up for a topic and research the WHO website on that topic. Each student in the group will submit the entire assignment to BB. Specifics for your paper: All 5 of the following questions must be answered.

1. Which disease is under investigation? What lab tests and/or diagnostic tests are done to establish the diagnosis? Since this is regarding an infection, include information about culture and sensitivity testing. Also note if there is any medication used to treat it and any resistance to antimicrobials noted. Is there is an adequate supply of the medications for those affected? If there is no medication available for the disorder, state that.

2. Where is the infection found throughout the world? Include information about where the country/countries is/are located. Also include the time frame of the epidemic, that is, when it started, how long it has been going on, and if it is getting worse, staying the same, or lessening.

3. Describe the the pertinent information regarding the etiology of the infection, and the typical course of the infection. Include what vectors are involved, if any and if none, so state. Also, if it spreads from person to person.

4. Note what factors have been found to influence the spread and treatment of the disease including: What are the environmental factors that have impacted the spread and treatment? Note if there have been any culturally-related barriers to treatment of the disease. Does it affect one sex or age group more than another? What is recommended for prevention?

5. Describe any possible solutions to the problem that were suggested or tried. What organizations (governmental or non-governmental) are working on treating the disease and what they have done? What were the results of their work?
