Week 12  Discussion Question:

We know that repeated trauma to the head can cause severe neurocognitive disorders down the road. For example, world-class boxer Muhammad Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson’s syndrome in 1984, a disease that sometimes results from head trauma from violent physical activities such as boxing.  One of my former nursing students was a world-class field hockey player who sustained several head traumas to the point that she was not allowed to read, look at a television or computer screen, or concentrate for any amount of time while her brain healed from the trauma.

Because of the risk of the cumulative effects of head trauma for the development of serious neurocognitive disorders,  how would you advise parents who want to involve their children in sports that can lead to repeated head trauma?  Risk of the cumulative effects of head trauma
