Week 9: Women’s and Men’s Health/Infections and Hematologic Systems, Part I
As an advanced practice nurse, you will likely encounter many disorders associated with women’s and men’s health, such as hormone deficiencies, cancers, and other functional and structural abnormalities. Disorders such as these not only result in physiological consequences but also psychological consequences, such as embarrassment, guilt, or profound disappointment for patients. For these reasons, the provider-patient relationship must be carefully managed.
During evaluations, patients must feel comfortable answering questions so that you, as a key health-care provider, will be able to diagnose and recommend appropriate treatment options. Discussion: Women’s and Men’s Health, Infectious Disease, and Hematologic Disorders
As an advanced practice nurse, you will likely experience patient encounters with complex comorbidities. For example, consider a female patient who is pregnant who also presents with hypertension, diabetes, and has a recent tuberculosis infection. How might the underlying pathophysiology of these conditions affect the pharmacotherapeutics you might recommend to help address your patient’s health needs? What education strategies might you recommend for ensuring positive patient health outcomes?
For this Discussion, you will be assigned a patient case study and will consider how to address the patient’s current drug therapy plans. You will then suggest recommendations on how to revise these drug therapy plans to ensure effective, safe, and quality patient care for positive patient health outcomes. Sample Discussion Approach
Brief Description of Patient Health Needs
Based on the scenario the case study is wants to describe a 46-year-old female that weighs about 230lb. This patient has a history of high blood pressure and has a family history of breast cancer. Further in the scenario it can be noted that this patient is having symptoms of premenopausal symptoms and also, she is obese and is up to date with her gynecological visit. One drawback is that 5 years ago she had a visit compared to a year when she completed another visit so several years have elapsed since she did her visit.
The specific health need for this patient is pointing to a weight loss regime where she can control her blood pressure and prevent other preexisting conditions, for example, renal failure and diabetes mellitus secondly, she needs regular review with her primary physician so she can be monitored with her blood pressure, and the medication that she currently takes. She also needs to be placed on hormone replacement therapy because of the hot flashes she has been experiencing, this therapy could help her existing symptoms. The other important health need for this patient is to introduce her on a strict diet that contains all the food groups, where she can start losing weight. Treatment Recommendations
The treatment recommendation for this client is based on her presenting symptoms and her potential for developing other disease processes. Bactrim is an antibiotic that is useful for her because of her urinary symptoms which looks like she has a urinary tract infection. The reason for this choice of antibiotic is because it is soluble in water and does not allow crystalline in the urine meaning it does not harm the kidneys and it is also bacteriostatic which allows the suppress the growth of the bacteria. It is also a derivative from folate which helps to form the cell DNA and RNA. The pharmacokinetic is that Absorption is well absorbed by the body
Distribution: The tissues and blood has a good distribution of this drug and the benefits on the body
Excretion: Metabolizes by the kidneys do not crystalize the urine and have little or no effect on the kidneys

Her blood pressure is high so I will recommend metoprolol because this drug is a beta-blocker and in premenopausal women and postmenopausal cardiovascular diseases are at high risks and weight gain. On the other hand she also has other preexisting condition, for example, she is obese which could to diabetes and heart attack (Burnett et al., 1998)
She also needs a repeat to appear because of the finding five years ago with the ASUS. This an abnormal tissue found outside the lining of the cervix. She will also be placed on Hormone Replacement Therapy and vitamins which will help her with the premenopausal symptoms (U.S/ Department of Health & Human Services, 20). Patient Education Strategy
A lot of women have reached the age of menopause and are between the age of 45 to 55 some workers and those who have chronic illnesses experience will have symptoms earlier. It is very imperative that education is implemented as early as possible to ensure she takes care of herself in the best way possible. Once young women enter their productive years they eventually experience symptoms of menopause for example, they would have difficulty sleeping, aches, and pains even feeling hot and feel cold. Teaching her in groups with other women will help to encourage her to learn more about the disease process. (Perry, 2019).
The patient education strategy I will recommend for this patient is to ensure that she understands the disease process determine, what she knows then I would teach her about the medications how they work in the body and the importance of taking them. Introduce her to join groups on topics of pre-menopause symptoms and how it affects the body. NURS 6521N Week 9: Womens and Mens Health
I would give her pamphlets on hypertension the risk of hypertension. Other medications for which she’s taking I would also, encourage her to read by giving her pamphlets. She will have telemedicine and the internet where she can develop her own knowledge about the disease she visits at the clinic to ensure that she is really educated about her disease process also I would educate her on weight loss because we lost help to prevent certain disease conditions for example diabetes and hypertension
I would also encourage her to purchase a scale and she can check her weight daily also I would encourage her to eat small portions until get involved in exercise if she does not have the money to go to the gym she can walk or she can do a simple exercise in her home I would also encourage her to make sure she takes her medication until it’s finished dfood labels and to see the salt content that in the food.
