- identifying factors that might affect the reliability of a psychological measure,

- evaluating the design of the content and format of survey items.Suppose that the chief administrator of a large prison is interested in developing a psychological measure that can be used to predict which incoming prisoners will be more likely to comply with prison rules and respect the authority of corrections officers. - To achieve this goal the prison administrator hires a team of psychological researchers and gives them the assignment to develop a measure of individual differences in submission to authority that can be administered to prisoners with the goal of identifying which individuals might be at risk of these types of discipline problems.The team of researchers constructs a 10-item self-report survey measure that includes items that are designed to assess individual differences in submission to authority.To test the properties of this measure the research team plans to administer the survey to a sample of incoming inmates.
